Milk thistle is rich in silymarin, known for its hepato-protective properties. The plant also protects the body against the effects of natural toxins. Silymarin, the active compound in milk thistle, has been the subject of numerous studies. Good to know: the milk thistle owes its name to the legend of the Virgin Mary who gave birth to the baby Jesus near a thistle grove.
