Understanding the Needs of Gestante and Breastfeeding Jument

The period of gestation and breastfeeding is a critical step in the life of a mare, where its nutritional needs increase considerably. A balanced diet is crucial for the optimal development of the foal and for keeping the mare healthy.

Nutrition During the Gestion of the Jument

Gestation in mares lasts about 11 months. During this period, the nutritional needs of the mare gradually change but become particularly important in the last three months, when the fetus experiences its greatest growth.

    Energy and protein

    • Increase in energy intake: The pregnant mares require an increase in their calorie intake, especially during the last trimester of gestation. This can be achieved by increasing the quantity of high quality fodder and, if necessary, energy concentrates.
    • High quality proteins: Protein requirements are also increasing, with essential amino acids crucial for fetal development.

    Vitamins and Minerals

    • Calcium and phosphorus: Essential for the skeletal development of the foal.
    • Zinc, copper and selenium: Important for fetal health and support of immunity.
    • Vitamins A, D and E: Crucials for the development and health of mare and fetus.

Nutrition During the Lactation of La Jument

After birth, the nutritional needs of the mare increase significantly to support milk production. Lactation is the time when the mare has the highest energy requirements.

    Energy

    • Significant increase in energy intake: To support milk production, the energy intake must be significantly increased. This may require careful food management to avoid overweight while providing sufficient energy.

    Proteins and Other Nutrients

    • Protein: Protein intake must remain high to support high quality milk production.
    • Calcium and phosphorus: Demand for these minerals remains high to maintain mare health and milk quality.
    • Vitamins: Vitamin needs, especially vitamin E, are increasing to help with postpartum recovery and support foal immune health.

    Tips for Balanced Nutrition

    • Regular monitoring: Weight and body condition monitoring is essential to adjust diet to changing needs.
    • Forage quality: Feed must be the feed base, supplemented by concentrates if necessary.
    • Hydration: Ensuring constant access to clean and fresh water is vital, especially during lactation.
    • Expert consultation: Work with an equine veterinarian or nutritionist to develop a personalized food plan.
    • Breedmix : A unique blend of nutrient-rich plants that contribute to the well-being of the pregnant or lactating mare
