    FAQ:

    Which horses need psyllium?

Psyllium is particularly suitable for horses who move on sandy soils, graze with razed grass on dusty grounds, or eat their ration from the ground. It is also suitable for equidae with irregular transit, punctual soft stools or a history of colic. Its use remains preventive: it does not replace veterinary consultation in case of proven colic.

How to prepare and administer psyllium to a horse?

Soak the dose of psyllium in warm water during at least 1 hour before distribution. The mixture gels gradually and easily into the usual ration (granules, chopped hay, flakes). Acceptability is generally good. Offer the ration immediately after preparation, without allowing the boil to rest too long. Ensure that the horse has access to fresh water in quantity throughout the cure.

How long does a psyllium cure for a horse last?

The curing type lasts 7 consecutive days per month. For high-risk horses (permanent sandy paddock, a history of sand colic), the monthly cure can be renewed each month within a minimum of 3 weeks between two cures. In case of a proven digestive disorder, the duration may be increased to 10 days on veterinary advice. Psyllium is not continuously used beyond these protocols.

Can we combine the psyllium with other supplements?

As a precaution, it is recommended that a at least 2 hours between the use of psyllium and any other food supplement or medicinal product. Psyllium forms a gel in the digestive tract that can slow down the absorption of certain substances. A common and well tolerated combination: the psyllium at the beginning of the cure with flax seeds to accompany the digestive comfort.

    Is the psyllium horse doping?

Psyllium is a pure plant of natural origin, not classified as doping substance in equestrian regulations (FEI, France Galop). It can be distributed in competition. However, as with any supplement, check the specific rules of your federation. The ESC Laboratory psyllium contains no additives, aromas or molasses.

What is the difference between blond psyllium and brown psyllium?

The blond psyllium (Plantago ovata) is the most widely used variety in equine supplementation. Its integument contains a high concentration of mucilage — up to 8 times its weight in water — This makes it the most efficient option for the transit and disposal of sand. Brown psyllium (Plantago psyllium) has a lower mucilage profile and is used less frequently in equine medicine. ESC Laboratory exclusively offers pure blond psyllium, without support or preservative.
