Green anise (Pimpinella anisum) is much more than just an aromatic plant. Known in equine herbal medicine for its carminative and antispasmodic virtues, this seed is a natural ally of bloated horses, chickens lacking milk and sensitive mare during their cycles. At ESC Laboratoire, we select a green anise rich in anethole to ensure optimal efficiency.

The 3 major fields of action of Green Anise

1/ Digestive comfort and assimilation
Green anise is the reference plant for soothing the digestive system.
Its action focuses on:

• Expulsion of gases: it helps reduce intestinal fermentation and reduces the risk of gaseous colic.
• The stimulation of appetite: its characteristic smell greatly pleases horses « difficult » and stimulates the secretion of gastric juices for better digestion.
• Stopping spasms: It offers quick relief in case of abdominal discomfort after meals.

2/ Support of pulleys (lactation)

For the following mare, green anise has properties galactogenic recognized. It naturally promotes the rise of milk and improves its quality, thus ensuring better growth of the foal from the first days.

3/ Balance of payments « Pissous mare » and ovarian sensitivity
Less known for this use, however, green anise helps regulate oestral cycle-related behavioural manifestations. By soothing uterine spasms and ovarian sensitivity, it allows working mares to be more serene and more available under the saddle during their heats.

Instructions for use and dosage

Green anise is presented as whole or crushed seeds to be mixed directly in your horse's ration.

Adult horse: 25g per day for 3 weeks, in 2 doses ideally. (to be renewed if necessary)

Poultry: on veterinary advice, may be administered at the end of pregnancy and early lactation. Although traditionally used for lactation, we recommend not to exceed the recommended doses to maintain the sensitivity of the foal.

Tip: for enhanced efficiency on digestion, you can associate it with fennel or to the peppermint.
