WHITE SAULE – Salix alba.Salicaceae family

The White Willow, is a tree of the Salicaceae family. This common tree in wetlands throughout Europe and temperate regions is often cultivated for bone production. The branches of Saule provide bone. Deciduous leaves, 5-12 cm long, very narrow and with a silvery face, are harvested bark from branches aged 2-3 years for medicinal use.

Main plant components: Salicylates (1.5-11 %), flavonic and heterosidic derivatives of salicoside, salicortin, fragiline, populin, salireposide, tremulacin. Phenolic compounds: triandrin, vimaline and aromatic derivatives, saligenin aldehyde syringic, salicylic acid, para-hydroxybenzoic acid, caffeine acid, ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid. Flavonoids: heterosides of quercetol, luteolin, leriodictyol, naringenin, ampelopsin and isosalipuroside. Tanins: proanthocyanidols dimers and trimers (8 to 20%)
