WHITE WILLOW - Salix alba.Family Salicaceae

The white willow is a tree of the Salicaceae family. This tree is common in wetlands throughout Europe and temperate regions and is often cultivated for the production of wicker. Willow branches provide the wicker. Deciduous leaves, measuring 5 to 12 cm long, very narrow and with a silvery face, the bark of the branches is harvested when they are 2 to 3 years old for medicinal use.

Main components of the plant: Salicylates (1.5-11%), flavonic and heterosidic derivatives of the salicoside group, salicortin, fragilin, populin, salireposide, tremulacin. Phenolic compounds: triandrin, vimalin and aromatic derivatives, saligenin syringic aldehyde, salicylic acid, para-hydroxybenzoic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, p-coumaric acid. Flavonoids: heterosides of quercetol, luteolin, eriodictyol, naringenin, ampelopsin and isosalipurpuroside. Tannins: dimeric and trimeric proanthocyanidols (8 to 20 %)

The white willow is recommended in case of sensitivity or stiffness of the joints. It can also be used for stressed or nervous horses.

Directions for use : dose to be added to the basic ration for an adult horse (550kg) : 30 g per day for 3 weeks. To be renewed if necessary. Do not hesitate to ask your veterinarian for advice before use or prolongation.

Precautions for use : pregnant or breast-feeding mares : on veterinary advice only. Not recommended for foals or in case of anticoagulant treatment. Formulated for the equids. Close tightly after use. Keep in a cool and dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
